Kelly Knox was crowned the winner of a British show called “Britain's Missing Top Model”. She has earned herself a modeling contract with an exclusive agency and a fashion shoot with Marie-Claire</a>, which can be seen in the gallery.
She had to beat seven other contestants in the show to get to the top position, with the eyes of the world upon her... for more than one reason. The show was about selecting the UK's best disabled model. In case you missed it in the photo, Kelly was born without a left forearm. Other contestants on the show had different disabilities including deafness, a prosthetic leg and partial paralysis.
From her interview in the Mail On Sunday, Kelly comes across as completely down-to-earth with a no-nonsense attitude which no doubt helped her beat hundreds of entrants in the competition. That and her beauty of course. Kelly is stunning, as were the other contestants, and they have made a leap forward in getting disability into the public eye.
Just like the plus-size models they are bringing into the spotlight that you do not need to be the 'image of perfection' to be beautiful. Especially when this image we are fed daily shows us unrealistic role models that look under-nourished, weirdly tall and certainly not the type of woman most of see in the mirror each morning.
Congratulations to Kelly for winning the competition!
